Mohammed El Hajoui Morocco, b. 1995

El Hajoui’s artistic practice develops through a reflection on

cultural memory, the threshold, understood as a symbolic

membrane between past and present, and the importance of

preserving traditional identities in a rapidly changing world.

He uses humble and natural materials, such as powders,

pigments, and ashes, to create ephemeral works that explore

transformation and transience as intrinsic elements of

human and cultural experience.

In their fragility and temporality, these materials reflect a

sustainable practice that values the creative process as much

as the visual outcome, highlighting care, attention, and

responsibility toward the environment and the communities

with which he engages.

The door lies at the centre of his research. A universal

emblem of hospitality, it becomes an invitation to

contemplate the space of passage and to question the

physical, cultural, and symbolic thresholds that connect

tradition and contemporaneity. Through this approach, he

seeks to create a dialogue between ancestral roots and new

visions.

Through his work, El Hajoui reinterprets and revisits

movements and gestures rooted in the artisanal and cultural

traditions he has observed throughout his life within his

family in Morocco, transforming them into a visual and

performative language, as well as material for research.
