Constellations: Group exhibition in support of Picha Art Center

AKKA Project in collaboration with Black History Month Milano (BHMM) and Black History Month Florence (BHMF), presents Constellations, a group exhibition in support of PICHA Art Center.

Based in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, PICHA Art Center is an independent contemporary art centre dedicated to supporting artists, fostering cultural exchange, and creating opportunities for artistic and cultural development both locally and across the region. Through exhibitions, artist residencies, educational programmes, and a range of cultural initiatives, PICHA has become an important space for the development of Lubumbashi’s contemporary art scene, encouraging dialogue and creating opportunities for artists and communities to meet, exchange, and engage with contemporary artistic practices.

Constellations aims to contribute to the continuation of this work by supporting PICHA and its ongoing activities. The sale of the works presented as part of the exhibition will directly contribute to the art centre’s programmes and its commitment to providing artists and the wider creative community in Lubumbashi with space, opportunities, and visibility.

The exhibition brings together works by Jermay Michael Gabriel, Justin Rudolph Thompson, Lamar Robillard, Delio Jassé, Ako Atikosse, Désire Lumuna and Jean Katambayi. Coming from different backgrounds and working across distinct contexts and geographies, the artists presented in Constellations explore a variety of perspectives, experiences, and histories. Their practices come together within the exhibition as a constellation of voices, reflecting the diversity and complexity of contemporary African and diasporic artistic practices.

The exhibition offers an opportunity to encounter their work and supporting the continued work of PICHA Art Center in Lubumbashi, contributing to the programmes and initiatives through which the centre supports artists and creates spaces for the wider creative community.
