Adeniyi Damilola Nigeria, b. 1989

Biography
Adeniyi Damilola is a self-taught visual artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Babcock University, but his passion for art began much earlier. As a child, he often filled his notebooks with drawings, inspired by his older brother’s sketches of wrestling characters. Though he had no formal training in art, this early fascination gradually grew into a serious pursuit.
In 2016, Adeniyi fully embraced his career as an artist. What started with simple sketches soon developed into more specialized practices such as body art and painting with oil and acrylic on canvas. Encouraged by friends and inspired by the creativity of established artists, he pushed himself to refine his skills and define his voice.
His works have since been exhibited in group shows, including Unusual Suspects at the African Artists’ Foundation. Adeniyi describes himself as a “concept artist,” deliberately experimenting with diverse ideas, techniques, and materials in order to keep his practice versatile and unrestricted. While his artistic language is constantly evolving, his works consistently reflect the richness of African heritage, exploring beauty, struggles, values, and stories drawn from lived experiences.
