Biography
Akinbanji Osanyemi is a Lagos-based, self-taught visual artist and a graduate in Economics from Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Osun State, Nigeria. His early fascination with observing and representing subjects, particularly in drawing on planes, laid the foundation for his artistic development and influenced his chosen style, widely recognized as Realism.
Determined to refine his craft, Osanyemi focused on mastering shading, proportion, and balance, which allowed him to develop a precise and expressive visual language. Over time, he expanded his practice to include striking charcoal drawings as well as innovative combinations of collage, painting, and mixed media, creating works that bridge realism and surrealism.
For Osanyemi, art is not only a display of technical skill but also a powerful medium for conveying messages that address social and human irregularities. His conceptual approach emphasizes flexibility, contemporary relevance, and the ability to provoke thought and reflection.
Professionally active, Osanyemi has participated in numerous exhibitions in Lagos, Nigeria, and London, establishing himself as a notable presence in the contemporary art scene. His work demonstrates both a commitment to technical excellence and a continual drive for creative innovation.
