Mascherada, Spazio MU.RO. Milano
Collezione MU.RO. opens its new home in Milan with Mascherada, an inaugural exhibition developed in collaboration with AKKA Project and dedicated to the creative dialogue between Africa and Europe. From 6 November to 15 December 2025, Spazio MU.RO. welcomes the public into a dynamic hub for contemporary art, research and cultural exchange.
The partnership with AKKA Project reflects a shared belief: culture acts as a bridge capable of overcoming borders, both geographic and symbolic. Together, the two organizations connect Venice, Milan and the African continent through an inclusive and international perspective on contemporaneity.
The exhibition brings to Milan five leading artists from the African art scene: Reinata Sadimba, Filipe Branquinho, Gonçalo Mabunda, Teddy Mitchener and Kelechi Charles Nwaneri. Sculpture, photography and mixed media works explore themes of identity, memory, ritual and transformation. The mask becomes a guiding symbol, spanning spiritual heritage, storytelling, and renewal.
Designed as a welcoming and vibrant cultural space, Spazio MU.RO hosts not only exhibitions but also a growing art library and the permanent collection, including the work awarded with the first MU.RO Collection Prize during The Others Art Fair 2025.
Looking ahead, Spazio MU.RO focuses on artistic voices from the MENA region, reinforcing Milan’s role as a cultural crossroads and widening the city’s gaze toward the South of the world.
Mascherada celebrates the collaborative spirit of AKKA Project and Collezione MU.RO, highlighting the power of artistic dialogue to connect cultures, generations and continents, and offering a space where Africa and Europe meet through contemporary creativity.
