The Gaze

6 June - 30 September 2025 Venezia
For the 2025 summer season, AKKA Project presents The Gaze, a group exhibition that continues the gallery’s exploration of perception and the many ways we experience the act of looking. This iteration turns its attention to the female portrait - seen not as a fixed category, but as a shifting and deeply personal terrain.
Each work in the show captures a different gaze: not only the gaze of the subject, but also that of the artist, shaped by their own background, vision, and sensibility. The result is a layered and diverse collection of portraits of women, united not by similarity, but by the richness of contrast.
The exhibition brings together four artists whose approaches to portraiture span a wide range of media and perspectives.

FEATURED ARTISTS:

Manzi Leon brings a fresh energy to the show with vivid paintings that weave together personal history and cultural memory.

Luigi Christopher Veggetti Kanku paints with a bold, expressive style, creating portraits on canvas and paper that speak to inner strength and resilience.
Janko de Beer contributes photographic works that have been digitally reworked, blurring the line between photography and sculpture, realism and abstraction.
Teddy Mitchener's lens captures striking moments of presence and intimacy, offering photographic portraits that are as quiet as they are powerful.

Through these works, The Gaze invites viewers into a dialogue - not only between artist and subject, but between cultures, generations, and ways of seeing. It challenges us to reconsider how identity is constructed, perceived, and portrayed, and how every gaze - whether received or returned - carries meaning far beyond the surface.
