This work is a bittersweet celebration of a generation’s hope.
Inspired by a primary school photo, the vibrant yellow
commemorates the introduction of Universal Primary Education
(UPE) in Uganda—a policy that promised a future we were
among the first to inherit. The painting holds the duality of that
memory: the bright optimism of the past against the sobering
knowledge of its uncompetitive reality today. It is a portrait of
girlhood, friendship, and a promise whose complex legacy we
now live with.
