AKKA Project is delighted to announce its participation in the upcoming edition of Abu Dhabi Art Fair, taking place from 19 to 23 November 2025.
We are proud to present a compelling group of artists whose practices resonate deeply with the fair’s emphasis on cultural dialogue and global perspectives. The booth will feature works by Cyrus Kabiru, Filipe Branquinho, Reinata Sadimba, and Gonçalo Mabunda - four artists whose voices reflect the complexity and vitality of contemporary African art today. You can find us at booth S21

Cyrus Kabiru (Kenya) creates imaginative sculptural works that transform discarded materials into visionary objects. Best known for his iconic C-Stunners eyewear, Kabiru reimagines waste as a medium of cultural storytelling, reflecting on technology, consumerism, and the shifting boundaries between tradition and futurism. His practice speaks to resilience and reinvention, offering a playful yet critical lens on contemporary African identities.
Filipe Branquinho (Mozambique) presents his Falcons series – a poetic exploration of animal symbolism through detailed drawings and print techniques. The falcon, a central figure in this body of work, connects Branquinho’s practice to the cultural heritage of the UAE, opening rich spaces for cross-cultural interpretation.
Reinata Sadimba (Mozambique), one of the most significant female artists from the African continent, creates surreal anthropomorphic clay sculptures that merge Makonde tradition with personal memory and matriarchal strength. Her work offers a visceral, emotional presence grounded in ancestral wisdom.
Gonçalo Mabunda (Mozambique) transforms decommissioned weapons from Mozambique’s civil war into powerful thrones and ritualistic masks. Through this practice, he reclaims instruments of destruction and turns them into symbols of memory, resilience, and peace — a narrative especially resonant in a region attuned to histories of conflict and transformation.

This carefully curated selection bridges regional relevance with global narratives, engaging with themes of identity, heritage, power, and healing. Through materially rich and visually striking works, AKKA Project’s booth invites reflection, dialogue, and emotional connection - in the spirit of Abu Dhabi Art’s mission of cultural exchange.
